Controversial Lyrics: Versace on the Floor

Bruno Mars had been a true icon in the music industry. Topping the billboards with his hit songs, he proved that he’s one of the lights of the Hollywood music nowadays. One of his great hits is Versace on the Floor,  which was included in the nationwide LSS (Last Song Syndrome) in the Philippines. However, some people are saying that its lyrics are too vurgar and matured that’s not suited for young listeners. According to some, the song is just about Bruno Mars having sex and such, but, it’s actually not. For me, the song is about Bruno Mars being ready to lose everything in the name of love. Take a look at these lines:

Let’s take our time tonight, girl

Above us all the stars are watchin’

There’s no place I’d rather be in this world

Your eyes are where I’m lost in

Underneath the chandelier

We’re dancin’ all alone

There’s no reason to hide

What we’re feelin’ inside

Right now

It’s about a boy and his lover taking their time together secretly since many eyes of people are watching them. For Mars, the stars could be the media. And in their time alone, the boy is convincing the girl that they don’t need to hide anymore and show their true love for each other.

I unzip the back to watch it fall

While I kiss your neck and shoulders

No, don’t be afraid to show it all

I’ll be right here ready to hold you

Girl, you know you’re perfect from

Your head down to your heels

Don’t be confused by my smile

‘Cause I ain’t ever been more for real, for real

This part of the song is when Mars is trying to unveil the truth about their relationship, taking off their masks in front of people while assuring the girl that he’ll protect him no matter what. And what they’re doing is already for real and not lying anymore.

So, baby, let’s just turn down the lights and close the door

Ooh, I love that dress, but you won’t need it anymore

No, you won’t need it no more

Let’s just kiss ’til we’re naked, baby
Versace on the floor

Ooh, take it off for me, for me, for me, for me now, girl

Versace on the floor

Ooh, take it off for me, for me, for me, for me now, girl

The chorus is the part when the boy is saying that they don’t need to pretend in front of people anymore. Also, he’s describing that he could turn things down for that love. Versace could symbloze his career that he’ll be willing to leave everuthing when his true love comes.

But hey! This is just my opinion and I don’t mean to give dates that Mars would be leaving the industry. Lol
